The Power of One Brave “YES”

One month ago today, I stood on top of the Swiss Alps, literally the highest peak in Europe, and it remains one of the greatest adventures I’ve ever experienced.

I had flown to Europe for the world’s largest book fair, but something in me knew this trip needed to be more than book signings, interviews, meetings and schedules. I felt a nudge to step outside my comfort zone… to explore new places, try unfamiliar foods, navigate trains and planes in a foreign country, and put myself out there just to see what I might learn.

And wow, did I learn.

Leadership Lesson #1: Growth begins with one brave “YES.”

When the opportunity to travel to Germany first appeared, I felt both excitement and fear. I had never traveled outside the U.S. and didn’t even have a single stamp in my brand-new passport.
But I said yes anyway.

Now that passport holds two stamps, Germany and Switzerland, and my heart holds a bigger dream for where my next “yes” will take me.

Leadership Lesson #2: Beautiful destinations require humility, help, and the willingness to change course.

Reaching the top of the Alps didn’t happen smoothly. There were mixed-up train schedules, last-minute route changes, and moments where I had no idea what came next.
So I asked questions.
I listened to people who knew more than I did.
And I stayed flexible enough to pivot when needed.

Leadership Lesson #3: The right companions make the journey unforgettable.

One of the biggest blessings of this trip was traveling with my sister-in-law, Becca McLeroy, an incredible human and a seasoned travel agent who guided me through the unfamiliar moments with so much wisdom. Together, we learned new skills, explored breathtaking places, and created memories we’ll carry for the rest of our lives.

And finally…

Leadership Lesson #4: The climb is always worth it.

To reach the top of Europe, we navigated early-morning gondolas, train rides inside a glacier, and a thrilling hike up what felt like the top of the world.
Hard? Yes.
Worth it? A million times over.

As I look back one month later, my heart is full of gratitude!  Gratitude for the growth, the courage, the companionship, and the God who meets us at every altitude.

Your next breakthrough might be waiting on the other side of a single, brave yes.
